If reports are to believed and if Everton are actually on the verge of signing dynamic West Brom midfielder Zoltan Gera, I personally will be delighted at the capture.
We have nothing to lose, a free transfer is the ideal deal for Everton. Gera will not command high wages and the lure of playing for a big club will not only one he will be relishing, but one that has proved impossible to turn down.
Gera has proved, not only at Championship standard but in the best league in the world, that he has the undoubted quality to succeed. I’ve always deemed him a constant threat, a real nuissance whenever he has come up against the Toffees. I recall a bullet header Gera guided home back in 2005, when Everton lost 1-0 at the Hawthorns.
In my opinion, Gera will provide the versatility our midfield so desperately requires. I like the fact that Gera is unpredictable, he passes well, scores goals and is a genuine threat in the air.
I’m hoping this potential deal reaches fruition, one thing’s for sure, we will not be disappointed. Gera will prove a gem for Everton, of that I have no doubt.

Joe ….. I totally agree, he’d be a great aquisition. Alas the pessimist in me will believe it when I see it. With Wyness, Ross and Kenright in charge I imagine we’ll mess it up.

Come on guys - plays for west brom and is probabley not even their best player. If he really is that good, how come people aren’t queuing up for his signiture. Or is he just looking for a big pay day ??

Frank.. I dont remember a massive que of clubs lining up to sign Arteta when we were in for him in 2005 or last summer when Yakubu joined us and just look at the impact those two have had?
Zoltan Gera would be a usefull player for Everton and I think particularly so when we have the likes of Cahill out injured because I remember him as being good in the air and also decent on the ground.
Its not just going to be all about 10 million pound signings this summer.
We are going to need at the very least 8 players to avoid our annual injury crisis so a few squad players with experience would do us just fine as long as we sign three or four top quality players to fit into the first 11.

I totally agree with Joe. And for me personally, a Hungarian Everton fan, it will be something fantastic to have Gera in the squad.
