Wigan Vs. Everton - Match Preview - 20/1/2008

Posted on 19 January 2008

Everton look to confirm their third double of the season with a win at the JJB Stadium against an in form Wigan Athletic. After appointing new boss Steve Bruce, Wigan have been enjoying a good vain of form, including a 1-1 draw at Anfield. Everton look set to have Leon Osman and loan signing Manuel Fernandes back in the squad, after returning from injury and coming in on loan respectively. Although, David Moyes is without Yobo, Pienaar and Yakubu due to the ACON.

Everton have managed to record victories in 12 out of 14 games where they have taken the lead, but without Yakubu, Everton look set to give a rare start to Andrew Johnson, who has struggled to get a run in the side after the signing of the Yak.

Wigan on the other hand haven’t recorded back-to-back wins for 10 months, and haven’t recorded a clean sheet since New Years Day. A win for Everton would take them into the top 4, and the possibility of Champions League football next season, with both Aston Villa and Liverpool still to play. The Goodison leg of this match resulted in a 2-1 win for Everton, with Leon Osman scoring a fluke past Chris Kirkland to win the game for the Blues.
