Vaughan is the epitome of Everton, brave, strong and fearless. The way he charges down defenders at high speed and goes through them is a brilliant sight for an Everton fan. His challenge on one of the Portsmouth defenders was the catalyst for the tremendous, rocking atmosphere at Goodison in the second half of the penultimate game of last season against Portsmouth. Then his searing pace and directness won the penalty that Arteta duly converted.
Vaughan’s two-month cameo towards the end of the season won him the club’s Young Player of the Season award. Big things were expected of him for the following season but in a cruel twist of fate Vaughan was back on the treatment table for a dislocated shoulder.
Despite this he has still been able to play a few more cameos’s this season, particularly when he changed the games against Birmingham, City and Reading, and also scored the winner in Alkmaar.
Another set back has ruled him out for the season, his troublesome knee locked in training and once again he flew over to see his pal, Steadman, the renowned knee surgeon.
But hopefully this will be the end to a catalogue of injuries like severed arteries and dislocated shoulders, which are more likely to occur in a car crash then on the football pitch! As the lad has superb ability. He isn’t blessed with the touch of Berbatov, but he is a superb athlete - he is fast as any player in the league and his sheer determination can also help him when chasing after Phil Neville’s ‘passes’ into the corner.
He has brute strength and is very powerful in the air and has a tremendous spring. He must’ve won about 50 headers last season. His two best performances last season were arguably against Aston Villa, where he ran their back line ragged almost single-handedly until he tired late on, and against Chelsea on the last game of the season where he completely bullied England captain John Terry.
Let’s just pray he stays fit, as he could be a lethal weapon next season.

Well said, Olli. I think given time, Vaughan will prove not only a fantastic striker for Everton, but an exceptional footballer. We can only hope he stays injury free and is given a sustained run in the team, something that he has yet to fully achieve.

Vaughan has the potential to be the best player of a generation; and I say that with 100% sincerity. His effort for the team is second to none, along with his finishing.
If he can stay injury free; Vaughany will go far; let’s just hope this gem stays at Everton…

Totally agree, Vaughan could become a great player for us if he maintains fitness long enough. He has far more natural ability than AJ.
