The day we have been waiting for is finally upon us. A win, at home against Chelsea, will put Everton into their first domestic trophy final in thirteen years. Everton, have not been in a final since the famous FA Cup final in 1995, when Everton beat Man Utd 1-0 at Wembley. Everton should have a full compliment of players available. Leon Osman made his return from injury against Wigan, and Manuel Fernandes should have regained enough fitness to play.
Chelsea have a few worries of their own. With Drogba and Kalou at the ACON, they can now choose between Anelka and Pizzaro up front. John Obi Mikel is also away at ACON, and John Terry, Frank Lampard and Wright-Phillps are all out with injuries. Chelsea lead the match 2-1, after Lescott handed Chelsea a last minute goal at Stamford Bridge, after he headed into his own goal.
After missing the first leg due to suspension, Mikel Arteta will return to the Everton team, and should play on one wing, with Leon Osman on the other. Chelsea are also without strong midfield Michael Essien, again due to the African Cup of Nations. After Nigeria were defeated in their first game at ACON, Everton players Yakubu and Yobo could return to the club within seven days if they are defeated again.
One thing is for sure, the daunting prospect of playing against Everton under the lights in a League Cup Semi-Final, only 90 minutes from Wembley, will not please Chelsea boss Avram Grant. The Goodison roar will lead the players on - and expect a long night ahead if Everton can win this game.
