Everton Vs. Arsenal - Match Preview - 29/12/2007

Posted on 29 December 2007

Everton firmly put the unfortunate defeat at Old Trafford behind them with a win against Bolton at Goodision Park, and now, they have the tougher challenge of Arsene Wenger’s side, who travel to Goodison Park occupying 2nd place in the table.

Everton meanwhile are holding steady in 5th place, and are only 3 points off the Champions League places, which has gone to settle the Anti-Moyes lobby. Everton fans have now seen the mighty blues suffer defeat only once in the last 15 games.

Arsenal on the other hand have been lacking in form recently. With a defeat to Middlesbrough still fresh in their mind, they will be hoping Andy Jonhson will not be able to show the lethal form which he showed in this game last season, where he netted in the 92nd minute to give Everton a 1-0 victory.

Both teams look set to be without star players. Robin Van Persie is certainly out of this one with another injury, which leaves Eduardo, Bendtner or Adebayor set to fill the void left by Van Persie. Everton meanwhile will be have to be without new signing Leighton Baines, who has been plauged by injury since making his five million pound move to Everton from Wigan. Everton are also set to be without veteran defender Alan Stubbs, who will soon need to get ready due to Joey Yobo’s absence as he travels to the ACON on 5th January. And, Everton will also be without Danish Hard man Tommy Gravesen and creative midfielder Leon Osman.

“We have a great chance of achieving something. It’s all about how we apply ourselves. We might not see a lot of the ball, but if we get a chance we must take it. Arsenal will be coming here knowing they are facing a massive game. These are the matches we look forward to. We will be buzzing as we take on one of the elite teams in the world.” The wise words of Tim Cahill, who will again be hoping to get on the scoresheet for the seventh time this season, after returning from injury just 2 months ago

No doubt, this goal will produce goals, and I think Everton fans are pretty confident of beating the Gunners in this late tie, which is live on Setanta Sports.
