Everton 1 Derby 0 - Match Report - 6/4/2008

Posted on 08 April 2008

After three bad results on the spin, Everton recorded their first win in four with a home win against bottom placed Derby County. After sharing the possession equally throughout the match, Everton won the game with a Leon Osman strike midway through the second half.

David Moyes made several changes to his team after the game against Liverpool; with Tony Hibbert and Phil Jagileka dropped from the starting eleven, and Leighton Baines and Manuel Fernandes taking their places.

Everton started the match poorly, with the first half summed up by a Yakubu miss early in the first half, when he blazed over an open goal from three yards out. With Everton consistently playing long ball - with special mentions to Joseph Yobo and Phil Neville; they were extremely poor; even with Andy Johnson supporting Yakubu upfront.

55 Minutes in the first half was time for Everton to show their magic. Manuel Fernandes picked up the ball on the left wing, and he drilled a low through ball to Leon Osman, who cooly slotted past Roy Carroll. And it was Osman who impressed again several times, and could have even bagged himself a hat-trick.

Arteta’s set peice’s were also a continued dissappointment; with none of them even beating the first man - something Moyes will surely be looking at sooner rather than later.

In the end, a win is a win, and it provides a vital three points in the race for fourth place.
