Duncan Ferguson

Posted on 26 November 2008

A legend, a hero, the epitome of Everton FC; Duncan Ferguson. When Duncan Ferguson was purchased from Rangers by Walter Smith, a few questions were asked of such a signing. An injury prone striker, whose best ability is heading the ball and attacking opponents, may not have been the kind of signing every Everton fan would have wanted. But, they could not have been more wrong.

The ex-convict proved to Everton fans that he was 110% dedicated to the cause that was Everton FC, and would not allow a fellow player or a referee to get in the way of him. This was summed up by his usual red card’s every few games, or a crunching tackle followed by an elbow to the head. But that was Duncan, our Duncan Ferguson.

For me, and this is personal opinion and not the view or all others, but I believe Ferguson was, and still is an Everton legend. He certainly wasn’t the most skillful or talented player on the team, but since his departure, I am yet to see the Goodison Park faithful rally like they did when Ferguson scored the winner against Man Utd in 2005.

Mr Ferguson, I salute you.
