Everton moved into 4th place, and into the Champions League places in the Premier League by virtue of a 2-1 win at the JJB Stadium, against a well set out Wigan side. Andy Johnson and Joleon Lescott grabbed goals for Everton late in the first half, within three minutes of each other, with Jagielka turning into his own net to gift Wigan a goal, mid-way through the second half.

Everton virtually sealed a place in the last 16 of the Uefa Cup as Leon Osman and Victor Anichebe struck after the break to sink SK Brann in Norway. Osman drove in a superb low finish after 59 minutes and substitute Anichebe turned in Joleon Lescott’s cross two minutes from time. Everton took control after the interval, with Tim Cahill hitting a post before Osman broke the deadlock. Brann threatened occasionally, but Everton’s quality proved decisive.

Everton managed to edge a win against a strong Man City side, via. a Lescott goal, midway through the first half. Throughout the whole match, Man City had the majority of the possession, but Everton managed to defeat City, and move up to 5th in the Premier League table, and are now joint 4th along with Liverpool, Man City and Aston Villa.

Everton’s second trip down to Stamford Bridge this season ended in an unfortunate, last minute defeat to a strong Chelsea side. It was in fact, an own-goal from Lescott in the 92nd minute who put the ball past Tim Howard. Chelsea had opened the scoring early in the first half through a great finish by Sean Wright-Phillips, but, his effort was cancelled out by a great Yakubu finish midway through the second half.

Everton fell to their third defeat in four games, as they lost to League One outfit Oldham. The near sell out crowd cheered Everton all the way, but, as Moyes resorted to Rafa-esque tactics, by rotating his squad, Everton failed to gain a firm foothold in the game, and came crashing out the FA Cup - their first defeat in a cup all season.

Everton travelled to the Riverside looking to bounce back after defeats to both Arsenal and Man Utd in the last two weeks. Everton were without regular starters like Arteta, Cahill and Joey Yobo for this New Years Day fixture.

Defeat is bitter, but, it is made even worse when David Moyes’ men forget to turn up for a second half of a match, resulting in a 4-1 defeat to Arsenal.
