A legend, a hero, the epitome of Everton FC; Duncan Ferguson. When Duncan Ferguson was purchased from Rangers by Walter Smith, a few questions were asked of such a signing. An injury prone striker, whose best ability is heading the ball and attacking opponents, may not have been the kind of signing every Everton fan would have wanted. But, they could not have been more wrong.

The ex-convict proved to Everton fans that he was 110% dedicated to the cause that was Everton FC, and would not allow a fellow player or a referee to get in the way of him. This was summed up by his usual red card’s every few games, or a crunching tackle followed by an elbow to the head. But that was Duncan, our Duncan Ferguson.

For me, and this is personal opinion and not the view or all others, but I believe Ferguson was, and still is an Everton legend. He certainly wasn’t the most skillful or talented player on the team, but since his departure, I am yet to see the Goodison Park faithful rally like they did when Ferguson scored the winner against Man Utd in 2005.

Mr Ferguson, I salute you.

This season, I think everyone will agree, Goodison Park is losing that magic sparkle that we used to love. Memories or games such as Fiorentina and Man Utd in 2005 come flooding back when I think of Goodison. Even that wonder strike from a young Wayne Rooney, brings shivers down my spine when I remember the crowds celebrations.

The team, this season has not performed, and yes, that could be a reason why we are distinctly lacking an atmosphere at our beloved home, but second half against Man Utd proved that we can and we are different from you’re general run of the mill football fans. But people, I urge you to turn up in numbers wherever possible, if the funds are available. The attendance of 31,000 against Fulham was our lowest since Moyes took over as manager 6 years ago.

Something needs to change, or our once world famous atmosphere, is slowly going to disappear to the corporate atmosphere you get at most Premier League teams nowadays.

Please Bill, let’s lower the prices, fill the stadium, and lets get Goodison shaking in its foundations.

On deadline day, September 1st 2008 an Everton legend in the making was signed for a paltry fee of around £2million, his name is Louis Saha. He has scored goals wherever he has been and when he has stayed injury-free. Sir Alex Ferguson was reluctant to let him leave Manchester United even though he had an abundance of strikers in Dmitar Berbatov, ex-toffee Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez which tells you the calibre of player we have acquired. He has had a relatively slow start to his Everton career but he grabbed the winner against old club Fulham and he is sure to kick on from here, as he was just gaining match fitness and settling in at his new club. I was worried about our lack of strikers after we sold Andy Johnson to Fulham with only inexperienced youngsters James Vaughan and Victor Anichebe alongside Yakubu but I now think we have a good blend of youth and experience up front. If it weren’t for his injury problems throughout his career, he would be plying his trade at a bigger club and would still be scoring goals for France. He will also help the younger players at the club by passing on his knowledge and experience and I’m sure Moyes has made a very astute signing for Everton football club.

“I’m doing a bit better, it’s a bit slower then I expected but I’m still happy,” Saha told BBC Radio Merseyside.
“Things are going in the right direction and that is the main thing for me.”

His return to fitness in recent weeks has seen him feature in Everton’s last five Premier League games, culminating with him scoring the winner against Fulham.

“It is a big boost for me and the team, my main concern is the team and the three points so it is a relief,” said Saha.

“I’m confident that I picked the right club,” he added. “I have players around me who can help me score goals and enjoy my football again.”

Supporters have bemoaned the lack of products to come through the Everton academy in recent times but we have two in the making in striker Hallam Hope and attacking midfielder Ross Barkley who recently represented England U16s in the annual Victory where he scored on his debut with a thumping header from a corner. Hope has also been making great strides in recent times making his u18s debut at the age of 14.

Both players seem to be coming good, and may only be a few years away from joining such products as Rodwell and Jose Baxter in pushing for first team places. It is still yet to be seem if the players will go the root of using everton as a stepping stone to their career, or if they will be signing long term contracts with the club when they reach seventeen.

The most prolific ever English goal scorer was a blue. William Ralph Dean was born in 1907 and started his career at Tranmere Rovers, scoring 27 goals in just 30 games. This brought about a move to his boyhood club, Everton Football Club.

Dixie Dean boasted a prolific strike rate in English football – a goal every 0.87 games. But it was not this that was most impressive about the typical English centre forward. It was a feat that to this day, has not, and most likely will not be matched – scoring 60 goals in one season. This £3,000 signing would not be forgotten by Everton and evertonians alike. In memory of Dixie Dean, a statue has been erected in his honour outside Goodison Park, carrying the description that summed up such a great man and a greatly talented footballer in three words - “Footballer, Gentleman, Evertonian”.

Since his retirement for the game, no Everton player has come close to even kissing the feet of such a great player and first rate goal scorer, the closest we got was a young star who too showed what we could do against Arsenal. He was called Wayne Rooney, but, the loyalty of Mr. Rooney, proved that he was still far, far away from the class of Dixie.

Everton went behind after 22 minutes from a Darren Fletcher strike, but showed much more resilience in the second half. A headed goal from Fellaini, his first for the club after arriving this season for £15 million, ensured Everton came out with a vital point.

Everton’s attack included a familiar face in Louis Saha, who recently moved to Everton from United. It was surprising inclusion considering Alex Ferguson has shown in the past that he would rather former players do not play against his side so soon after leaving Old Trafford club.

Looking back to April 2007, Tim Howard was controversially omitted from Everton’s side and replaced by Iain Turner when they played United. Howard had previously been on loan but was eligible to play after turning his loan move into a permanent transfer.

Howard who made several world class saves this weekend was not able to help back then after being dropped from the squad for that game. His replacement Iain Turner made a vital error which broke down Everton’s resistance. After gaining a 2-0 lead, Everton ended up losing 4-2.

Maybe when he let Saha go, Sir Alex Ferguson did not expect his former player to jeopardize his team’s chances of coming away with 3 points when they visited Everton. He played well and could even have won the game for Everton. In the first half Saha found a decent opening on the edge of the area. If it wasn’t for Wes Brown’s excellent tackle, Everton could have taken all 3 points.

Everton’s next game is away to Bolton. Remember to check out the free bets available on football. When will Saha score his first goal?

If you enjoy soccer, you’re probably a fan of many different sports. If you enjoy horse racing, there are many big races you can follow. In the US there’s the Triple Crown of horse racing, which is the Preakness, Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes. The Kentucky Derby is held at Churchill Downs, the Preakness at Pimlico Race Course in Maryland and the Belmont at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York.

Not everyone knows that Australia also has it’s own version of the Triple Crown. The three races that make that up are: 2,000 Guinea Stakes, Epsom Derby and the St. Leger Stakes. The biggest race though in Australia is the annual Melbourne Cup, which is for three-year-old horses and over, and covers a distance of 3,200 meters. The event is held on the first Tuesday in November by the Victoria Racing Club, on the Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne.

If you are looking for Melboure Cup Odds or Melbourne Cup Betting, there are some great places to do that. One of them is the Racing Report.com, where they will let you bet on the Melbourne Cup and there is plenty of information on the odds of each horse, from the field favorite, Mad Rush all the way down to 401-1 longshots.

They lost 3-1 - but Everton was leading 1-0 until early in the second half when Theo Walcott came on for Arsenal and energized the team to a 3-1 win. Everton’s manager David Moyes took this loss hard as it would have been a great steal for Everton to pull this one out.

Now it comes out that Everton is up for sale and a Middle Eastern group is in talks to buy the team. Everton has Manchester United at home at Goodison Park in their next match, that game will also be a tall order for the boys in Toffee Blue.

Players these days are stronger, faster and have more stamina than soccer players in the past. Today’s athletes collide with violent force and cause injuries to their knees and legs that are more destructive than those of yesteryear.

Even more destructive to players bodies than on the field collisions are addictions to prescription drugs, painkillers, alcohol and a variety of other exotic drugs. The famous American football player Brett Favre was famously hooked on prescription painkillers and it took him months of rehab to kick his habit. Many other famous European soccer players have been hooked on the bottle during their playing days and usually their performance suffers greatly because of it. Diego Maradona was famously suspended in 1991 after a failed doping test for cocaine in Italy.

As a professional athlete or a weekend warrior if you find yourself regularly craving drugs or alcohol you should consider checking yourself into a drug rehab center. One of the leading drug and rehab centers in the United States, Cliffside Malibu has programs for all different types of disorders: alcohol rehab, and drug treatment as well as eating disorders, depression and other disorders. Cliffside Malibu is an extended care facility that has a gorgeous view of the Pacific Ocean and many modern amenities including: plasma tvs, wireless internet access, laundry service and a fitness center.

If you have a loved one that needs an intervention, you can schedule an appointment for a drug detox intervention and make sure your family members are all in attendance. If you need treatment, Cliffside Malibu is a great place to start, so don’t hesitate and check out their excellent services today.
