Carsley Set For New Deal

Posted on 05 May 2008

Lee Carsley, an Everton stalwart is set to be offered a new contract by David Moyes at the end of the season. Although already 34 years old, Carsley seems to have impressed Moyes enough to be offered a new deal to keep him at Goodison.

Speculation has been rife in recent weeks that Carsley has already agreed a deal to join Paul Jewell’s Derby County revolution; joining another ex-Everton hero Alan Stubbs at Pride Park.

Moyes recently praised Carsley’s professionalism and reliability in the middle of the park. Although some Everton fans feel that Carsley is not at a standard to compete for a top four place; due to both age and ineptitude, no one can fault his 100% effort, and would definitely be some much need strength in depth next season if he decides to sign a new contract at Goodison Park.

Utter joke if true. Cars has been a great servant, will always be remembered for “that goal” but the time has come for us, as a club, to not only “move on”, but find a combative, younger replacement

  2. Dan says:

I have to disagree Joe. Keeping Carsley on for a one year contract is better than moving Phil Neville out of position. Anyway, Carsley would only be on around £10k a week, compared to how much it would cost us to bring in a back on around £20k a week.

If Carsley goes, Sean Davis is the man needed as his replacement.

  3. Joe says:

Carsley continually getting games (which he will if he signs this new deal) is undoubtedly a barrier to progress. He has no pace whatsoever, continues to increase his caution tally and offers nothing going forward. Out with the old, in with the new, that is, if we genuinely want to progress as a football club.

  4. Dan says:

True, but depth is what we have needed this season. I am not sure if the likes of Rodwell are better than playing Carsley in that role. The last two games; Villa and Arsenal he has been quality.

  5. Olli says:

Carsley has been past it for the last year or so. As Joe said he cant move, see the Fulham away goal and he doesnt even get anywhere near Simon Davies who has been ravaged by injuries

Much rather have Rodwell as back up next season or even Neville, at least he can move

A big midfield destroyer like Loric Cana from Marseille is a must

  6. Michael says:

Carsley should without a doubt be released at the end of the season, if he isn’t then Moyes will be tempted to keep playing him because ‘he’s done a good job in the past’

we need to look forward, Carsley is most definately not forwards.

I hope so much that carsley will go, during games against chelsea, etc he can be relied only on giving away free kicks leading to goals against, it is a travesty that he ever played for everton, if man u had him hed never get a game, wouldnt look out of place in sunday league
